Out of the 20 diseases listed in the NTD portfolio, more than half affect the skin. WHO will launch a companion document to the WHO NTD Roadmap that aims to assist countries endemic for neglected tropical diseases that present on the skin.
This strategic framework develops common management pathways & innovative means to facilitate detection & improve surveillance of these diseases. It places an emphasis on a people-centered integrated approach to enable countries to tackle the morbidity, disability and psychosocial impact of skin NTDs and other skin conditions. It presents an integrated approach to skin NTDs, and identifies key partners and resources to reduce transmission, delays in diagnosis and treatment to alleviate costs.
